Gareth Brookes

Gareth Brookes is a British graphic novelist and multidisciplinary artist known for his experimental approach to comics and storytelling. He gained recognition after winning the First Graphic Novel Prize in 2012 and has since established himself as a creator who incorporates unconventional materials such as embroidery, pressed flowers, and pyrography into his works. His innovative techniques challenge traditional comic formats, blending visual art with narrative in distinctive handmade publications.

Brookes holds a degree from the Royal College of Art and has shared his expertise through teaching roles at institutions such as City & Guilds of London Art School and the University of Lincoln. Beyond his creative practice, he has contributed to the comics community by organizing events like the South London Comics and Zine Fair. Currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Arts London, Brookes researches materiality and metaphor in comics, further exploring the intersection of craft and sequential art.
