Garry Disher

Garry Disher is a well-known Australian author, celebrated for his contributions to crime fiction and children's literature. He was born in 1949 in Burra, Australia, and spent his childhood on his family's farm in South Australia. After completing his education at Melbourne and Adelaide Universities, Disher was awarded a writing fellowship at Stanford University in 1978, where he wrote his first collection of short stories. His travels overseas significantly influenced his writing, and he eventually returned to Australia to teach creative writing before becoming a full-time writer in 1988.

Disher has written over 40 titles, including general and crime fiction, children's books, textbooks, and books about the craft of writing. His work has gained international recognition, with his Challis and Destry police procedurals and Wyatt crime from the inside thrillers winning best crime novel of the year awards in Australia and Germany and appearing on best books of the year lists in the USA. Disher's unique style and compelling storytelling have solidified his reputation as one of Australia's most talented authors.

Disher's love for writing began in his childhood, influenced by his father's bedtime stories, isolated farm life, and his passion for reading. After completing his education, he traveled extensively to Europe, the UK, and Africa for work, further honing his craft. His decision to become a writer was a natural progression, and he has since become a prolific and respected author in the industry.
