Garth Richard Nix is a highly talented Australian author, born on July 19th, 1963, who specializes in children's and young adult fantasy novels. Garth Nix was born in Melbourne, Australia, and moved to Canberra at a young age. After leaving home at nineteen, he traveled around the UK in a beat-up Austin filled with books and a typewriter. Upon his return to Australia, Nix pursued a variety of careers in the literary field, including working in a bookshop, as a book publicist, a publisher's sales representative, and editor. His diverse background also includes five years as a part-time soldier in the Australian Army Reserve and several years as a public relations and marketing consultant. Nix became a full-time writer in 1998 and has since sold more than five million copies of his books, which have been translated into 40 languages.
