Gary Lonesborough

Gary Lonesborough is a Yuin author who grew up on the Far South Coast of New South Wales as part of a large Aboriginal family. His debut young adult novel, "The Boy from the Mish," explores themes of identity and belonging through an Indigenous lens. Lonesborough's early passion for writing led him to study film in Sydney, and his work has been recognized with awards including the Patrick White Young Indigenous Writers' Award and a Copyright Agency First Nations Fellowship.

Before establishing himself as an author, Lonesborough worked across diverse fields including Aboriginal health, disability services, and the film industry, with experience in the Youth Justice System. These professional backgrounds inform his writing, which often reflects marginalized perspectives. His contributions to community and literature were acknowledged when he was named Bega Valley Shire Council Young Citizen of the Year.
