George Saunders

George Saunders is an acclaimed and highly prolific American author, well-known for his unique brand of fiction. He has been contributing to various prestigious publications, including GQ and McSweeney's, for several years. Saunders has made a significant name for himself in the industry through his distinctive voice and writing style, which has set him apart as one of the most influential figures in the field of fiction.

Born on December 2, 1958, in Chicago, Saunders earned a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1981. After working for several years as a technical writer and geophysical engineer, Saunders decided to pursue his passion for writing and enrolled in the Master's program at Syracuse University, where he received his MA with an emphasis in creative writing in 1988. Since then, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Creative Writing Program at Syracuse University and has also taught at various other institutions.

Saunders is the author of nine books, including the best-selling collection of short stories, "Tenth of December." This book was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the inaugural Folio Prize, as well as the Story Prize. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including MacArthur and Guggenheim fellowships, the PEN/Malamud Prize for excellence in the short story, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2013, Time magazine named him one of the world's 100 most influential people. Saunders is married and has two children, and his favorite charity is a project to educate Tibetan refugee children in Nepal.
