Gil North

Gil North is the pseudonym of Geoffrey Horne, a British author who is well-known for his detective stories. His novels primarily feature Sergeant Cluff, who is based in Yorkshire. The series was so popular that it was adapted for the big screen by BBC in the 1960s, under the title "Cluff."

North was born in Skipton, Yorkshire, and received his education at Ermysted's Grammar School. He later attended Christ's College in Cambridge. In 1949, he married Betty Duthie. From 1938 to 1955, North served as a Civil Servant in the UK's African Colonies. He spent his later years in his hometown of Skipton, where he passed away in 1988.

In addition to writing under the pseudonym Gil North, Horne also published novels under his own name, Geoffrey Horne. Throughout his career, he was known for his keen eye for detail and his ability to create suspenseful and engaging narratives. His works have been well-received by critics and readers alike, and his legacy as a talented author continues to this day.
