Giles Milton is a highly acclaimed British journalist and author, best known for his narrative fiction works. Over the years, Milton has sold more than one million copies of his narrative fiction works in the United Kingdom alone, with his books being published in over two dozen languages. His bibliography includes children's fiction novels, two comic novels, a thriller, and more than a dozen works of non-fiction.
Born in Buckinghamshire in 1966, Milton has contributed articles to most of the British national newspapers and many foreign publications. He specializes in the history of travel and exploration, with his extensive research taking him to various parts of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Japan, the Far East, and the Americas. Milton's passion for history and his insatiable curiosity have led him to discover and bring to life some of history's most fascinating and overlooked stories in his books. He is a member of the Hakluyt Society, which focuses on reprinting the works of explorers and adventurers in scholarly editions. Milton wrote a significant part of his book Samurai William in the London Library, making use of the establishment's vast resources.
In addition to his narrative fiction works, Milton is an internationally best-selling author of narrative non-fiction. His latest book, Checkmate in Berlin: The Cold War Showdown That Shaped the Modern World, follows his successful titles such as D-Day: The Soldiers' Story and Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the latter being a Sunday Times best-seller. Milton's other critically acclaimed works of history include Nathaniel's Nutmeg, which was serialized by the BBC. Giles Milton currently resides in London with his wife, the illustrator Alexandra Milton, and their three daughters.
