Gilles Deleuze

Gilles Deleuze was a prominent French philosopher whose work significantly influenced poststructuralist thought and contemporary discussions on society, creativity, and subjectivity. Known for his empirical and vitalist approach, he developed concepts such as multiplicity, constructivism, and difference, which set him apart from mainstream Continental philosophy. Among his most notable works are "Anti-Oedipus" and "A Thousand Plateaus," co-authored with psychoanalyst Félix Guattari, which reflect his political engagement and critique of traditional psychoanalysis. His writings also include "Empiricism and Subjectivity," a study of David Hume, and explorations of philosophers like Spinoza, Nietzsche, and Kant, as well as analyses of literature, cinema, and art.

Deleuze's philosophical style was marked by his insistence on creativity and the generation of new concepts. He rejected static interpretations of identity, emphasizing instead the fluidity of difference and repetition. His collaborations extended beyond Guattari to include figures such as Michel Foucault, Jean-François Lyotard, and other intellectuals and artists, reinforcing his interdisciplinary approach. Deleuze served as a professor at the University of Paris, Vincennes–St. Denis, where he continued to develop his distinctive philosophical vision until his death in 1995. His works, including "Cinema 1," "Cinema 2," "The Fold," and "Proust and Signs," remain influential in both academic and artistic circles.
