Gilbert Galbraith is a Scottish crime writer, best known for her series featuring Detective Sergeant Alice Rice. She was born in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, in January 1957 and was educated at a convent and at the Universities of Edinburgh and Dundee. After working a variety of jobs, including dish-washing, bookselling, and journalism, she was called to the Scottish Bar in 1987.
Before turning to writing, Galbraith worked as an Advocate at the Scottish Bar for many years, with the majority of her work in Civil Law. However, she also conducted a number of criminal trials in the High Court of Justiciary. It was not until after the birth of her daughter in 1999 that she became interested in fiction writing. Her first novel, "Blood in the Water," was published in 2007, and she has since published several other novels, including those in the DS Alice Rice series and a new series featuring Father Vincent Ross.
Galbraith currently lives with her family and their pets in Kinross. In addition to her writing, she enjoys sculpting in clay as a hobby. Two of her works are currently being exhibited in the Sun gallery in Newburgh, Fife. She has also appeared at the Edinburgh Book Festival on multiple occasions and is currently working on the second book in the Father Vincent Ross series.
