Gordon Carroll is an American author, known for his Gil Mason series of books, who has had a long and distinguished career as a K9 handler and trainer. Carroll grew up in a small town in Colorado, with the majestic Rocky Mountains as his backdrop. After joining the Marine Corps at the age of eighteen and serving for over seven years, he transitioned to a career in law enforcement, eventually becoming a sheriff’s deputy in Denver, Colorado.
Carroll’s love for dogs led him to become a K9 handler and trainer, a role in which he has actively assisted the FBI, DEA, and various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the apprehension of criminals and detection of narcotics. Over a span of twenty years, he trained three dogs: Thor, a 56-pound Belgian Malinois, JR, a 120-pound German shepherd, and Max, a 90-pound Belgian Malinois. His expertise in K9 training is also reflected in his writing, with his Gil Mason series featuring a private eye and his dog Max.
In addition to his work as a K9 handler and author, Carroll is also a family man, having been married for over three decades to his high school sweetheart and being a father to four children. He is also a member of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers (RMFW) and has served on speaking panels and performed K9 demos at the annual conferences. His love for books began in sixth grade, and he has been an avid reader ever since, with his writing influenced by a wide range of authors from different genres.
