Grace Lin

Grace Lin is a highly respected and influential American author and illustrator of children's books. Born in 1974, Lin grew up in New York and pursued her passion for art by attending the Rhode Island School of Design. Her parents were immigrants, and this cultural background has significantly influenced her work, which often features Asian characters and settings. Lin has received numerous accolades for her books, including the Newbery Honor, Theodor Geisel Honor, and a place on the New York Times bestseller list.

Lin's career as an author and illustrator began with her focus on drawing, which she initially pursued as a potential path to ice skating. However, she soon realized that her true talent lay in creating art for children's books. Her first published book, "The Ugly Vegetables," was released in 1999, and she has since published numerous picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade novels. Lin's books often feature Asian cultural elements and characters, and she has been an advocate for diversity in children's literature.

Aside from her work as an author and illustrator, Lin is also a reviewer for the New York Times and a commentator for New England Public Radio. She has been recognized for her contributions to children's literature and has received numerous awards and honors. Lin currently resides in Florence, Massachusetts, with her husband and daughter. Her books, including "Starry River of the Sky" and "The Year of the Rat," continue to captivate and inspire young readers.
