Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg is a prominent Swedish climate activist who first gained international recognition for her efforts at the age of 15. She began protesting outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018, calling for more action to be taken to combat climate change. Her "Skolstrejk för klimatet" or "School strike for the climate" protest quickly gained media attention, even though Sweden had already enacted what was considered to be one of the most ambitious climate laws in the world, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2045.

Thunberg's activism has had a significant impact on a global scale. In November 2018, she initiated the school strike for climate movement, which surged in popularity after the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) in December of the same year. On March 15, 2019, an estimated 1.4 million students in 112 countries joined Thunberg in striking and protesting for action on climate change. A similar event took place on May 24, 2019, with students from 125 countries participating. Thunberg's impact on the world stage has been described as the "Greta Thunberg effect" by some media outlets.

Thunberg has received numerous awards and accolades for her activism. In March 2019, three members of the Norwegian parliament nominated her for the Nobel Peace Prize. Later that same year, in May 2019, she was featured on the cover of Time magazine, becoming one of the youngest individuals to ever be featured on the cover. Thunberg's unwavering dedication to raising awareness about climate change and advocating for action has inspired countless people around the world, making her a truly influential figure in the fight against climate change.
