Hamilton Crane is the pen name of Sarah J. Mason, a British author who has written a series of 13 sequels and a prequel to the popular mystery thriller novels, the "Miss Seeton" series. Mason has also written several novels under her own name, including the "Trewley and Stone" detective fiction series and two standalone novels. It is important to note that Sarah J. Mason should not be confused with Sarah Mason, a British romance novelist who does not have a middle name.\n \nHamilton Crane adopted her pen name when she was invited to continue the "Miss Seeton" series, which was originally created by Heron Carvic. Crane chose "Hamilton" as a nod to her hall of residence at St Andrews University, and "Crane" to continue the bird theme, as a crane has a similar form to a heron. She has lived in Hertfordshire for about fifty years, with the exception of a year spent in New Zealand and four years in Scotland. Crane currently resides in Somerset, a few miles from the city of Wells, which is far enough away from the busy city of Glastonbury that she avoids traffic congestion.
