Heather Peck

Heather Peck is a renowned author, best known for her Greg Geldard series of murder mysteries. Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Peck has had a diverse and fascinating career that has greatly influenced her writing. She has spent a significant portion of her professional life in agriculture, working as a civil servant in MAFF/Defra and as a hands-on farmer. This experience exposed her to a wide variety of situations, from managing emergency responses to the Chernobyl accident to breeding sheep and alpacas commercially. Peck has also been involved in international negotiations, pesticide legislation, food quality, and animal welfare.

After leaving Defra, Peck turned her attention to healthcare and volunteering. She chaired an NHS Trust and volunteered in Citizens Advice and the Witness Service. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she combined her agricultural and healthcare backgrounds by training as a Covid vaccinator. Peck currently resides in Norfolk with her partner Gary, along with two dogs, two cats, two hens, and a rabbit.

Peck's writing is heavily influenced by her life experiences, particularly her time in agriculture. Her love for the countryside and the animals she has worked with is evident in her writing. She has a deep respect for the farming industry and is passionate about animal welfare. Peck's writing is also informed by her experiences with the NHS and her work with Citizens Advice and the Witness Service. She is a keen observer of human behavior and is interested in exploring the ways in which humans can be cruel to each other and to the world around them.

The Greg Geldard series is set in rural North Yorkshire and Norfolk, and Peck draws upon her knowledge of agriculture and her personal experiences in both counties to create vivid and engaging settings for her stories. Her main protagonist, Greg Geldard, has evolved and grown alongside the stories, and Peck has found great satisfaction in watching him and other characters develop and take on lives of their own. Peck is also the author of a debut children's book, "Tails of Two Spaniels," which is heavily influenced by her interactions and adventures with multiple springer spaniels.
