Helen C. Escott is a highly accomplished Canadian author, best known for her award-winning Operation crime thriller series. She was once a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and has had a successful career in media, radio, and TV. Escott's writing is characterized by her unique insights into the world of law enforcement, thanks to her background with the RCMP.
Before becoming a full-time author in 2014, Escott worked for ten years in the RCMP as a Senior Communication Strategist. During her tenure, she played a crucial role in managing high-profile events, including the RCMP's response to the September 11th terrorist attacks in Newfoundland. She also developed and implemented communication strategies to combat organized crime and outlaw biker gangs, created a media relations course, and taught it in several provinces across Canada, including at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa. Escott's expertise in communication strategies was further demonstrated when she served as a communications strategist at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Escott has received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding contributions to volunteering, fundraising, and writing. In 2017, she was presented with the CLB Governor and Commandants Medallion in recognition of her achievements in volunteering and fundraising work. In 2019, she received the Governor General's Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers. In 2021, Escott was awarded the Veterans Ombud Commendation Lifetime Contribution Award for her outstanding work with veterans. Additionally, in 2022, she received a Certificate of Recognition from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for her work and dedication to veterans.
As a prolific writer, Escott has authored eight novels and one play. Her Operation series has been highly successful, with Operation Wormwood being shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada's best first crime novel award. Operation Vanished won the Silver Medal – Best Regional Fiction at the 24th annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, and Operation Masonic was a finalist for the 2023 Best Atlantic-Published Book award by the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association (APMA). Escott's latest novel, Operation Masonic, is the fifth in the Operation series, which was released in 2022.
