Holly Chamberlin is an American author, well-known for her women's fiction novels. She was born in the Bronx and grew up in three different boroughs in New York City. Chamberlin has a deep love for literature, holding undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Literature from New York University. Her passion for reading and writing led her to a career in editing, where she worked for three major publishing houses. Eventually, she decided to focus on her own writing and became a novelist.
Chamberlin currently resides in Portland, Maine, with her husband, Stephen, who is a photographer, architect, and food writer. When she is not writing, she enjoys reading the works of various authors, including Patrick McGrath and Peter Ackroyd. Growing up in New York City, Chamberlin lived in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn before moving to Maine.
Chamberlin's professional journey in publishing began after completing her graduate course. She worked as an editor at Ballantine Books, Kensington Publishing Corporation, and Daniel Weiss Associates. During her time as an editor, she acquired and developed projects, mostly fiction in young adult and adult categories. Following her tenure in editing, she moved on to freelance editing, ghost writing, and reviewing manuscripts. It was during this time that she decided to focus on her own writing and became a novelist.
Chamberlin's writing career took off in 2002 when she published her first novel, "Living Single," with the help of her old friend and colleague John Scognamiglio at Kensington. Since then, she has been writing one novel a year and has contributed novellas to three collections. In addition to her writing, Chamberlin is an active member of the arts community in Portland, Maine, where she and her husband enjoy entertaining, cooking, and supporting local theatres, music, museums, and bookstores.
