Horst Christian was born in Berlin, Germany in the year 1930. His father, a banker and mathematician, recognized and encouraged his son's potential at an early age. By the time Horst was five, his father had already taught him to read and write, giving him a head start in his educational journey. Horst's love for writing became apparent by the time he was ten, and he began writing vacation reports and several articles for the German school periodical “Hilf Mit”.
Horst's life took a dramatic turn when he was drafted to help defend Berlin against the Soviets at the age of 14. His unique knowledge of the subway system made him an invaluable asset, and he served as a guide for various SS demolition commandos. After the war, Horst immigrated to the United States in the early 1950s and became a citizen after the mandatory 5-year waiting period. He and his wife, Jennifer, have lived in Northern California for the last 30 years, where they run a small ranch.
Horst Christian is the author of the Journey to America series and the Growing Up Under the Third Reich series. His books are based on his own experiences as a young boy in Germany during World War II and the days leading up to and after the fall of Berlin. His unique perspective as a 14-year-old boy forced to fight for a cause he did not understand sets his work apart from other books about the war. In addition to his writing, Horst loves to travel and has visited all 50 states in the US, most of Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and some Central American countries.
