The novel initially gained recognition as an e-book after winning an open contest co-organized by the Korean content platform Brunch. Prior to her fiction debut, Hwang published several essay collections, including "I Read Every Day," "I Tried Kickboxing for the First Time," and "This Distance is Perfect."
With a background in Computer Science, Hwang worked as a software engineer at LG Electronics before transitioning to writing full-time.
