Ian Stuart Black

Ian Stuart Black was a British novelist, playwright, and screenwriter known for his contributions to literature and television. His novels "In the Wake of a Stranger" (1959) and "The High Bright Sun" (1962) were adapted into films, with Black writing the screenplays for both. He also gained recognition for his work in television, scripting episodes for popular series such as "The Invisible Man," "Sir Francis Drake," and "Danger Man," where he additionally served as associate producer.

Black's versatility extended to science fiction, notably through his work on "Doctor Who," for which he wrote three serials: "The Savages," "The War Machines" (co-written with Kit Pedler and Pat Dunlop), and "The Macra Terror." He later novelized these stories for Target Books. His career spanned several decades, culminating in his final credit for the supernatural drama "House of Glass" in 1991. Black's writing often explored adventure, conflict, and speculative themes, leaving a lasting impact across multiple genres. He was the father of actress Isobel Black.
