Imogen Robertson

Imogen Robertson is a highly acclaimed English author, best known for her Crowther and Westerman series of historical fiction novels. Born and raised in Darlington, she went on to study Russian and German at Cambridge. Prior to her career as a novelist, Imogen worked as a director for TV, film, and radio. Her writing is greatly influenced by her background in directing, as well as her love for poetry. She has even had a poem published that was highly praised by the 2005 National Poetry Competition.

Imogen's interest in writing can be traced back to her childhood in Darlington, where she attended a comprehensive school before moving to a public school that accepted girls in the sixth form. This experience exposed her to a culture shock that broadened her perspective and contributed to her ability to write from different viewpoints. In 2007, she won the First 1000 words Daily Telegraphs Novel in a Year Competition with the opening of her debut novel, Instruments of Darkness. Since then, she has written several other novels, including Anatomy of Murder, Island of Bones, and Circle of Shadows.

Imogen's novels have been translated into more than 10 languages and have won her numerous awards. She has been shortlisted for the CWA Ellis Peters Historical Award twice, and her novel The Paris Winter was published in the US by St Martin's Press in November 2014. In addition to her work as a novelist, Imogen has also co-authored several books, including King of Kings with Wilbur Smith and Liberation with Darby Kealey under their joint pseudonym Imogen Kealey. She is also the author of a political thriller with Tom Watson. Imogen is currently the Chair of the Historical Writers' Association and lives in London with her husband, cheesemonger and author, Ned Palmer.
