Isobelle Carmody is a highly acclaimed author of fantasy and science fiction, hailing from Australia. She is best known for her series, the Obernewtyn Chronicles, which she began writing while still in high school. The series has solidified her position as a leading figure in fantasy writing in Australia. In addition to the Obernewtyn Chronicles, Carmody has written several standalone young adult and children's novels and series.
The Obernewtyn Chronicles, a series of eight books, tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world and follows the journey of its protagonist, Elspeth Gordie, as she uncovers her own powers and the secrets of her world. Carmody's other series include the Gateway Trilogy, which has been favorably compared to The Wizard of Oz and the Chronicles of Narnia, and the Little Fur quartet, an eco-fantasy starring a half-elf, half-troll heroine and fully illustrated by the author herself. Carmody has also written several standalone novels, such as Alyzon Whitestarr and Billy Thunder and the Night Gate.
Carmody's writing has been honored with numerous awards, including multiple Aurealis Awards and Children's Book Council of Australia Awards. She is currently working on the final book in the Obernewtyn Chronicles, The Red Queen and another book, The Cloud Road.
