J.M. Adovasio

James M. Adovasio is an American archaeologist renowned for his expertise in perishable artifacts, including basketry and textiles. With a career spanning decades, he has authored nearly 400 scholarly books, monographs, articles, and papers, establishing himself as a leading authority in his field. Adovasio gained prominence for his groundbreaking work at Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Pennsylvania, a site that challenged prevailing archaeological theories and played a pivotal role in the "Clovis First" debate.

Previously serving as Provost and Dean of the Zurn School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Mercyhurst University, Adovasio also directed the institution's Archaeological Institute. His research has significantly advanced the understanding of ancient material culture, particularly through his meticulous analysis of fragile artifacts that often elude preservation. Adovasio's contributions continue to shape archaeological discourse, bridging the gap between technical scholarship and broader historical narratives.
