Jack Lynch was a renowned author, known for his Peter Bragg mystery novels and his non-fiction works on literary history. Lynch was born and raised in Seattle, where he attended the University of Washington and graduated with a BA in Journalism. After graduation, he worked as a reporter for several newspapers in the Seattle area, Iowa, and Kansas.
Lynch eventually settled in San Francisco, California, where he held various jobs, including working as a bartender in Sausalito and for a brokerage house. However, he eventually returned to journalism and joined the staff at the San Francisco Chronicle. After years of working at the newspaper, Lynch decided to leave and focus on his writing. This decision led to the creation of the eight Peter Bragg novels, which were modeled after many of Lynch's own experiences and aspects. The Peter Bragg novels earned Lynch two Shamus and one Edgar nominations and a devoted following of future crime writers.
In addition to his Peter Bragg novels, Lynch also wrote several non-fiction works, primarily focused on literary history. His non-fiction works include "The Age of Elizabeth in the Age of Johnson," "Samuel Johnson's Insults," "Samuel Johnson's Dictionary," and "Becoming Shakespeare." He also edited and contributed to "Anniversary Essays on Johnson's Dictionary" and "The Oxford Handbook of British Poetry, 1660-1800." Furthermore, he wrote two books on cognitive psychology, "Thinking Without Words" and "Thinking with Words," and "Rethinking Cognitive Psychology." Lynch passed away in 2008 at the age of 78, leaving behind a vast and diverse body of work that continues to be read and studied today.
