Jack McDevitt is an acclaimed American science fiction author, best known for his Alex Benedict and Priscilla Hutchins series. These series have gained him a significant following and critical acclaim in the science fiction community. The stories often revolve around themes of xeno-archaeology, exploration, and contact with alien civilizations.
Before becoming a successful author, McDevitt had a diverse range of careers including being an English teacher, naval officer, taxi driver, customs officer, and motivational trainer. His first foray into publishing was his novel, "The Hercules Text," which was released in the Ace Specials series and won the Philip K. Dick Special Award. McDevitt's work has been recognized by the Nebula Awards, with his novels being finalists for 12 of the past 13 years. In addition, he has won several awards, including the UPC International Prize for his novella, "Ships in the Night," and was a finalist for the Arthur C. Clarke Award for "The Engines of God."
McDevitt's novella, "Time Travelers Never Die," was also nominated for both the Hugo and Nebula awards. Despite his success, he remains humble and enjoys simple pleasures, such as playing chess, reading mysteries, and having lunch with his friends. McDevitt currently resides in Georgia with his wife, Maureen.
