Jack Sheffield

Jack Sheffield is a highly regarded author from Britain, known for his historical, humor, and fiction novels. He is most famous for his Teacher series, also known as the Jack Sheffield series. The main character of the series is based on Sheffield himself, and the stories are set in a fictional village in Yorkshire. Sheffield sets the stories in the late 1970s to the early 1980s, and he aims to portray life in Yorkshire accurately during that time.

Jack Sheffield, born Jack Linley in Leeds in 1945, grew up in the tough environment of Gipton Estate's north-eastern region in Leeds. His first job was as a pitch boy, carrying buckets of boiling bitumen and climbing ladders to assist in roof repair work. During the 1960s, Sheffield underwent training at St. John's College in York to become a teacher. He spent his summer days working as a Corona Pop Man during his training. After becoming a trained teacher, Sheffield became head teacher of two schools in North Yorkshire in the late 70s and early 80s. He later became a senior lecturer in primary education at Bretton Hall.

Sheffield turned to writing after retirement, and his first novel, "Teacher, Teacher!", sold 100,000 copies. His ability to tell engaging stories about life in Yorkshire, along with his experience as a head teacher, has made him a popular and successful author. His books are known for their humor, historical detail, and accurate portrayal of life in rural England.
