James Boswell

James Boswell, 10th Laird of Auchinleck and 1st Baronet, was a Scottish lawyer, diarist, and author best known as the biographer of Samuel Johnson. His seminal work, "The Life of Samuel Johnson," remains a cornerstone of biographical literature, earning him lasting recognition. Boswell's name has entered the English lexicon as a term for a devoted companion and observer, a testament to his meticulous documentation of Johnson's life and wit. Born into an influential family as the eldest son of judge Alexander Boswell, Boswell inherited the Auchinleck estate in Ayrshire.
