James Calbraith

James Calbraith is a Poland-born British writer known for his historical fantasy and alternate history novels. His debut novel, "The Shadow of Black Wings," reached the semi-finals of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award in 2012 and became a bestseller in Historical Fantasy and Alternate History categories on Amazon US and UK. He later gained further recognition with "The Year of the Dragon" saga, which sold over 30,000 copies worldwide, and his Saxon-age historical series, "The Song of Britain," which topped bestseller charts in the UK, Germany, and France.

Born and raised in communist Poland, Calbraith grew up immersed in literature ranging from J.R.R. Tolkien's works to Soviet science-fiction. After studying at multiple Polish universities, he relocated to London in 2007 and transitioned to writing in English. His background and travels influence his writing, which often blends rich historical settings with fantastical elements. Now based in Scotland, Calbraith continues to explore history-adjacent storytelling while maintaining a passion for coffee and global exploration.
