James Greer is a multifaceted novelist, screenwriter, musician, and critic known for his work across literature, film, and music. His novels include "Bad Eminence," "The Failure," and "Artificial Light," which showcase his literary versatility. As a screenwriter, he penned the psychological thriller "Unsane," directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Claire Foy and Juno Temple. Greer has also authored books about the bands R.E.M. and Guided By Voices, the latter of which he played bass for in the mid-1990s.
Beyond fiction and screenwriting, Greer has contributed significantly to music journalism, having served as Senior Editor of SPIN Magazine during its peak in the early 1990s.
