James Heneage

James Heneage is a British author known for his historical fiction, particularly his exploration of empires and their legacies. His debut novel, "The Walls of Byzantium," launched in 2013, is the first installment in his Mistra Chronicles series, which delves into the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Combining meticulous research with compelling storytelling, his works bring pivotal moments in history to life for modern readers.

Before turning to writing, Heneage had a distinguished career in the literary world as the founder of Ottakar’s, a chain of bookshops that expanded to 150 branches before its acquisition by Waterstones in 2006. His passion for history led him to chair the Cheltenham Literary Festival and later co-found the Chalke Valley History Festival, which attracts thousands of attendees annually. These experiences deepened his expertise in historical narratives, shaping the authenticity and depth of his fiction.

Heneage continues to write and engage with history through both his novels and public events, cementing his reputation as a storyteller who bridges the gap between scholarly research and accessible historical fiction.
