James Heneage is a British author known for his historical fiction, particularly his exploration of empires and their legacies. His debut novel, "The Walls of Byzantium," launched in 2013, is the first installment in his Mistra Chronicles series, which delves into the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Before turning to writing, Heneage had a distinguished career in the literary world as the founder of Ottakar’s, a chain of bookshops that expanded to 150 branches before its acquisition by Waterstones in 2006. His passion for history led him to chair the Cheltenham Literary Festival and later co-found the Chalke Valley History Festival, which attracts thousands of attendees annually. These experiences deepened his expertise in historical narratives, shaping the authenticity and depth of his fiction.
