James Higdon

James Higdon is an accomplished author and journalist with a focus on regional history and investigative nonfiction. His debut book, "The Cornbread Mafia," explores Kentucky's largest domestic marijuana syndicate and was published in hardcover in 2012, followed by paperback editions in 2013 and a revised version in 2019. Higdon further demonstrated his commitment to preserving local narratives with "The Nearly Forgotten History of Portland, Kentucky," released in 2018, which delves into the heritage of a once-thriving river town.

Educated at Centre College, Brown University's MFA writing program, and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Higdon combines rigorous research with compelling storytelling. His works reflect a deep engagement with Kentucky's cultural and historical landscapes, often uncovering lesser-known stories with broader significance. Beyond writing, he serves as co-founder and chief communications officer for Cornbread Hemp, a Kentucky-based CBD company specializing in USDA organic products.
