James Howard Kunstler

James Howard Kunstler is an American author, social critic, and blogger, best known for his works on suburban development and peak oil. He was born in New York City in 1948 and attended New York's High School of Music and Art and SUNY Brockport, where he earned a BA in Theater in 1971. Kunstler began his career as a reporter for the Boston Phoenix, the Albany Knickerbocker News, and later became an editor with Rolling Stone Magazine. In 1975, he left corporate journalism to focus on writing books.

Kunstler's most notable works include "The Long Emergency" (2005), which discusses the impact of declining oil production on industrialized society, and "The Geography of Nowhere" (1993), a history of suburbia and urban development in the United States. He is also the author of several novels, including "World Made By Hand" (2008) and its three sequels. Kunstler's shorter work has been published in various periodicals, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic Monthly.

In addition to his writing, Kunstler is a serious professional painter and a popular blogger. His blog, Clusterf**k Nation, is published every Monday morning on his website, and his podcast, The KunstlerCast, is updated once a month. Kunstler's work often focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing American communities as they adapt to a post-peak oil world, and his unique perspective and insightful commentary have earned him a devoted following.
