James Mace is a best-selling American author, historian, and life-long storyteller with a passion for fiction, history, and historical fiction novels. According to his parents, he has been telling stories since he was six, though it would be many years before he began writing. Mace's writing journey began in the early 2000s, when he started penning physical fitness articles for a bodybuilding website and a now-defunct magazine called Hardcore Muscle.
Mace's interest in history is reflected in his work, which includes over thirty books, eleven of which are Ancient History best-sellers, and five of which are South African History best-sellers. His love for history led him to write his first novel, Soldier of Rome: The Legionary, as a cathartic means of escapism while serving in Iraq from 2004 to 2005. Since then, he has expanded his repertoire to include numerous eras, from Ancient Rome to the British Empire. Mace plans to delve into Medieval times and the First World War in the future.
In addition to his historical novels, Mace maintains a blog called The Buffed Historian, where he shares random fitness and other tales from across history. His hobbies include weightlifting, road cycling, foothills hikes, traveling across the globe, live theatre, video games, and sitting down for a game of Dungeons & Dragons with friends. He currently resides in Boise with his wife, Tracy, and their cats.
