James McCrone

James McCrone is a distinguished author from the United States, recognized for his exceptional work in the thriller, mystery, suspense, and crime fiction genres. He is particularly celebrated for his Imogen Trager series of political-suspense-thriller novels, which includes two books so far: Dark Network and Faithless Elector. These novels revolve around the clandestine threats to America's presidency and the efforts of the main characters to overcome these challenges and safeguard the office.

McCrone's Imogen Trager series features Imogen Trager as the lead character, who works as an agent for the FBI. The series also includes other notable characters such as Duncan Calder, a Political Science professor, Matthew Yamashita, a graduate student studying the current political scenario of the United States, and Diane Redmond, who emerges victorious in the 2016 presidential election and becomes the first female candidate to become the president. McCrone's novels are set in the United States and explore the complex world of politics and the challenges faced by those who serve in law enforcement.

In addition to his Imogen Trager series, McCrone has also written a new thriller titled Bastard Verdict, which is set in Scotland against a second referendum on Scottish Independence. To ensure the accuracy of the details in the novel, McCrone drew on his childhood experiences in Scotland and scouted locations for scenes in the book during his visits to Bloody Scotland in 2019 and 2022. McCrone's work often explores characters who are pitted against forces larger than themselves, and he has a fascination with politics and issues of accountability and justice.

McCrone is a Pacific Northwest native who now resides in South Philadelphia with his wife and three children. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Sisters in Crime network, Mystery Writers of America, International Association of Crime writers, International Thriller Writers, and Philadelphia Dramatists Center. He holds an MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle. McCrone's short fiction has been published in various anthologies and journals, including Low Down Dirty Vote, vols. 2 and 3; Rock and a Hard Place (Winter/#7); and Retreats from Oblivion: The Journal of NoirCon.
