James Moloney

James Francis Moloney is an Australian author best known for his young adult novels, which often explore themes of identity, resilience, and social issues. Born in Sydney on September 20, 1954, he spent much of his life in Brisbane after moving there at age seven. His debut novel, "Crossfire," was published in 1992, followed by the critically acclaimed "A Bridge to Wiseman's Cove," which won the Australian Children's Book of the Year Award in 1997. These works established his reputation as a compelling voice in contemporary young adult literature.

Moloney's writing is deeply influenced by his experiences as a teacher and his time in Cunnamulla, a rural Australian town with a significant Indigenous population. His novels often reflect his engagement with cultural diversity and personal growth, drawing from his travels and professional background. After 15 years teaching at Marist College Ashgrove, he transitioned to full-time writing in 1997, further solidifying his literary career.

Beyond writing, Moloney enjoys cycling, painting, and traveling with his wife, Kate. They have three children, two of whom are university students.
