James Whyle is a South African author known for his critically acclaimed fiction. His short story, "The Story," was selected by Nobel laureate JM Coetzee as the winner of the 2011 Pen/Studzinski competition. His debut novel, "The Book of War," earned the M-Net Literary Prize for best debut in 2012, establishing his reputation as a distinctive voice in contemporary literature.

Born in the Amatole Mountains of South Africa's Eastern Cape, Whyle's background deeply informs his writing.
