Jan Guillou

Jan Guillou is a Swedish author and journalist best known for his internationally acclaimed fiction series, including the Carl Hamilton spy novels and the Crusades Trilogy featuring Arn Magnusson. His works have been translated into more than twenty languages, solidifying his reputation as one of Sweden's most successful authors. Among his notable titles are "The Road to Jerusalem" and "The Templar Knight," which form part of his historical fiction trilogy centered on the Knight Templar.

Before achieving literary fame, Guillou gained prominence as an investigative journalist. In 1973, he and colleague Peter Bratt exposed Informationsbyrån (IB), a clandestine Swedish intelligence organization, marking a significant moment in his journalism career. His writing often reflects themes of espionage, historical intrigue, and political conspiracies, drawing from his own experiences and deep research. Guillou remains active in journalism, contributing columns to the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet.

In addition to his writing, Guillou co-owns Piratförlaget, one of Sweden's largest publishing houses. His career has not been without controversy; in 2009, it was revealed that he had been recruited by the KGB in 1967, with his involvement lasting until 1972. Despite this, his literary contributions continue to resonate with readers worldwide. Guillou resides in Stockholm, where he remains an influential figure in both literature and publishing.
