Jane Borodale

Jane Borodale is a British author and artist whose literary work blends historical research with vivid storytelling. Her debut novel, "The Book of Fires," garnered critical acclaim and was shortlisted for the 2010 Orange Award for New Writers. The novel, which explores themes of alchemy and secrecy in 18th-century England, has been translated into multiple languages. Borodale followed this success with "The Knot," a historical novel centered on Henry Lyte, a 16th-century botanist known for his translation of a seminal herbal text.

With a background in site-specific sculpture, Borodale brings a unique interdisciplinary approach to her writing. Her artistic practice, including residencies at institutions like the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, informs her meticulous attention to historical detail and setting. She often draws inspiration from overlooked figures and forgotten narratives, weaving them into richly textured prose. Borodale lives in the Westcountry with her husband, poet Sean Borodale, and their two children.
