Jane Haddam is the pen name of Orania Papazoglou, an American author born on July 13, 1951, in Bethel, Connecticut. She is celebrated for her contribution to the mystery genre, having penned multiple series and standalone novels under her pseudonym. Before embarking on her writing career, Haddam worked as a college teacher and a magazine editor.
Jane Haddam first gained recognition in the mystery community when her debut novel, Sweet, Savage Death, received an Edgar nomination for Best First Mystery Novel by an American Author in 1984. This book introduced Patience McKenna, a protagonist who would appear in five more novels, including Wicked, Loving Murder (1985) and Rich, Radiant Slaughter (1988). However, Haddam's most popular and enduring character is Gregor Demarkian, a former FBI agent who made his first appearance in Not a Creature Was Stirring (1990). The series, which has spanned over twenty novels, features many holiday-themed installments, such as Murder Superior (1993), Fountain of Death (1995), and Wanting Sheila Dead (2005).
