Jane Porter

Jane Porter is a bestselling American author, well-known for her series of women’s fiction and romance novels and novellas. She was born in the small town of Visalia, California, and considers herself a small-town girl at heart. Growing up, she developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of her surroundings, including the golden foothills, oak trees, and miles of farmland. The scent of orange blossoms on a humid summer night is one of her most cherished memories from her childhood.

As a young girl, Porter spent hours daydreaming about far-off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. She had a vivid imagination and often saw herself as a Joan of Arc crusader, a magical fairy, or a princess. Her parents encouraged her imagination and took her family to Europe for a year when she was thirteen. This experience had a profound impact on her, broadening her perspective and sparking a lifelong love for travel and exploration. She returned home with a passion for different cultures and customs, particularly those of Italy, where she would later set some of her most popular novels.

After her years of traveling and studying, Porter settled down and began a successful career as a writer. She earned a Bachelors degree in American Studies from UCLA and later an MA in Writing from the University of San Francisco. She has worked in sales and marketing, as a director of a non-profit foundation, and as a teacher of junior high and high school English. Today, she is the author of over 75 romance and women’s fiction titles, with over 15 million copies in print.

Porter’s novels have been finalists for the prestigious RITA award six times, and she won the Novella Category in 2014 for her Tule Publishing novella, Take Me, Cowboy. Her wildly popular novel, Flirting with Forty, was picked by Redbook Magazine as its Red Hot Summer Read in 2006 and was later turned into a Lifetime movie starring Heather Locklear. In 2021, two of Porter’s Taming of the Sheenan romances were turned into original movies for the Great American Family Network. She currently lives in Seattle and Hawaii with her three sons and three dogs, and continues to write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly, love.
