Jason M. Hough is a New York Times bestselling author, known for his science fiction, thriller, and fantasy novels. Originally from the United States, Hough has a diverse professional background that includes working as a 3D animator, game designer, and artist. He has contributed to the design of popular games such as Aliens vs/ Predator: Extinction and Metal Fatigue. In addition to his work in the gaming industry, Hough has also been involved in high performance cluster machine learning and computing.
Hough's writing career began in 2008 when he started working on his first novel, The Darwin Elevator, as a part of National Novel Writing Month. The book was published in 2013 and quickly became a bestseller according to the New York Times. This debut published fiction of Hough was the first novel in the Dire Earth Cycle series, which also includes the subsequent books released the same summer. A prequel novella, The Dire Earth, followed in 2014. His other well-known series begins with the novel Zero World, published in 2015 by Del Rey Spectra (US) and Titan Books (AUS/NZ).
