Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson, a highly acclaimed English author, was born in Manchester, England in 1959 and grew up in Accrington, Lancashire. She was adopted into a strict Pentecostal Evangelist family, which would later provide the backdrop for her debut novel, "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit." Published in 1985, this semi-autobiographical work tells the story of a young girl rebelling against conventional values, and it established Winterson as one of the most original voices in British fiction.

Winterson's academic background includes a degree from St Catherine's College, Oxford. After graduation, she worked in London as an assistant editor at Pandora Press. Her literary talent was recognized early on, and she was named one of the "Best of Young British Writers" in a joint promotion by Granta and the Book Marketing Council. Throughout her career, Winterson has demonstrated her versatility as a writer, not only producing novels but also adapting her work for television, contributing reviews and articles to various newspapers and journals, and writing radio dramas.
