Jef Czekaj

Jef Czekaj is a children's book author, illustrator, and cartoonist known for his vibrant and humorous works. He has written and illustrated twelve books, including "Hip and Hop Don't Stop!," "Cat Secrets," "A Call for a New Alphabet," and "Austin, Lost in America." His books have earned recognition as Junior Library Guild selections and received accolades such as the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award and the Young Hoosier Book Award. Additionally, his work has been designated a "Must Read" by the Massachusetts Center for the Book.

Czekaj's career extends beyond picture books into comics, most notably with his long-running series "Grampa and Julie: Shark Hunters," which appeared in Nickelodeon Magazine for over a decade. A collection of the comic's first three years was published with support from a Xeric Foundation Grant and distributed by Top Shelf. His creative pursuits also include music, reflecting his multidisciplinary approach to storytelling. Based in Somerville, Massachusetts, Czekaj continues to engage young readers with his playful and imaginative narratives.
