Jeff Shaara is a respected American novelist, best known for his works in historical fiction. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1952, and grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. Shaara was born into a family of Italian immigrants and was raised in the United States. After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in criminology in 1974, he went on to operate a rare coin business, which he eventually expanded into a retail store in Tampa, Florida.
Shaara's literary career began in earnest following the death of his father, Michael Shaara, in 1988. Michael Shaara was also a novelist, known for his works of historical fiction. After his father's passing, Jeff Shaara took over the management of his father's estate and began writing his own novels. He has since written a number of bestselling books, including those set during the Civil War, US-Mexican War, American Revolution, World War I, and World War II. His works have been well-received by critics and readers alike, and have earned him a place as a prominent and respected voice in the world of historical fiction. Shaara currently lives in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
