Jeff Zentner

Jeff Zentner is an American author known for his critically acclaimed young adult fiction. He has written several notable works, including "The Serpent King" and "In the Wild Light," both named New York Times Notable Books, as well as "Goodbye Days" and "Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee." His forthcoming novel, "Colton Gentry's Third Act," is scheduled for release in 2024. Zentner’s writing has earned numerous accolades, including the ALA’s William C. Morris Award, two Amelia Elizabeth Walden Awards, and the International Literacy Association Award. His books have been translated into fifteen languages and longlisted twice for the Carnegie Medal.

Before becoming a novelist, Zentner pursued a career in music, recording five albums and collaborating with artists such as Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Debbie Harry. His transition to writing was influenced by his volunteer work at the Tennessee Teen Rock Camp and Southern Girls Rock Camp, where he developed an interest in young adult storytelling. Zentner’s upbringing also played a role in his literary journey; he spent countless hours in libraries as a child and worked in bookstores during high school and college. Fluent in Portuguese, he lived in Brazil’s Amazon region for two years.

Zentner’s novels often explore themes of resilience, friendship, and the complexities of growing up in the American South. His work has been praised for its emotional depth and authentic voice, resonating with both young adult and adult readers. He continues to write from his home in Nashville, Tennessee, where he draws inspiration from his diverse creative background and personal experiences.
