Jennifer Niven is an accomplished American author, well-known for her young adult novels. One of her notable series is the Velva Jean series. By the time she was ten years old, Niven had already demonstrated her passion for writing, having created many songs, poems, autobiographies, picture books, a play, a mystery series, a short story collection, and an incomplete novel about Vietnam. Her picture books featured the alien Doodle Bugs, and she even illustrated them herself. Niven also wrote a play about Laura Wilder’s sister and a series of prison mysteries.
Niven’s dedication to writing became a full-time pursuit in 2000. In addition to her novels, she founded a web magazine called Germ, which caters to high school-aged students and beyond, celebrating beginnings, futures, and the myriad of experiences in between. Her success as an author is evident in the acclaim she has received for her work. Her novel All the Bright Places was a #1 New York Times bestseller, won the GoodReads Choice Award for Best Young Adult Fiction of 2015, and was named a Best Book of the Year by multiple publications. The film adaptation, which features a script co-written by Niven, is currently available on Netflix. Niven is currently working on her fourth and fifth novels for young adults, with her third book, Breathless, recently released. She resides in Los Angeles and coastal Georgia with her husband, children, and literary cats.
