Joanna Quinn was born in 1976 in London, but spent her formative years in Dorset, in the South West of England. This coastal region would later serve as the inspiration for her debut novel, "The Whalebone Theatre." As a child, Quinn's love for writing was already evident as she penned stories and won the WH Smith Young Writers Award for her story "Kestrel" at the young age of 12.
Quinn has had a diverse career, working in both journalism and the charity sector. Alongside her professional work, she has also established herself as a talented short story writer. Her work has been published by several reputable outlets, including The White Review and Comma Press. In addition to her writing, Quinn is also an experienced creative writing teacher, sharing her knowledge and passion for the craft with others. She continues to reside in a village near the sea in Dorset.
