John Darryl Winston

John Darryl Winston is a Detroit-based author and educator known for his debut series, "The IA Series," a coming-of-age hero's journey originally developed for a creative writing and literacy initiative. His work has garnered critical acclaim, earning him a Readers' Favorite Finalist distinction in 2015, followed by a Bronze Medal in 2016 and a Gold Medal in 2018. Winston's background in both literature and music informs his storytelling, blending imaginative narratives with rhythmic prose.

A Detroit native, Winston holds degrees from The Recording Institute of Detroit, Wayne State University, and The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, as well as an MA and MFA in Creative Writing from Wilkes University. Before transitioning to literature, he enjoyed a successful career in music, collaborating with industry legends such as David Foster and Clive Davis. His work as a recording artist under Arista and Polygram Records, alongside songwriting credits for artists like Gerald Levert and Gerald Alston, underscores his versatility as a creator. Now residing in Michigan with his daughter, Winston continues to write while nurturing his passion for education and storytelling.
