John Dominic Crossan

John Dominic Crossan is widely recognized as a preeminent scholar in the field of historical Jesus studies. His influential works, including "The Historical Jesus," "Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography," and "Who Killed Jesus?" have become essential readings in biblical scholarship. His book "The Birth of Christianity" further explores the origins and development of early Christian communities. Crossan's rigorous research and accessible writing have made his works popular among both academic and general audiences.

Born in Nenagh, Ireland, in 1934, Crossan pursued extensive theological and biblical education, earning a Doctorate of Divinity from Maynooth College and conducting post-doctoral research at institutions such as the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and the École Biblique in Jerusalem. A former ordained priest and member of the Servite Order, he later joined DePaul University, where he served as a professor in the Department of Religious Studies until his retirement in 1995. His interdisciplinary approach combines historical, archaeological, and literary analysis to reconstruct the life and teachings of Jesus.

Crossan's contributions to historical Jesus scholarship have earned him international acclaim, including appearances in prominent media such as the PBS documentary "From Jesus to Christ."
