John G. Hartness is a storyteller who is best known for his defense of ladies’ virtues, his efforts to right wrongs, and his talent for telling tales. He is a published author with several successful series under his belt, including the urban fantasy series The Black Knight Chronicles, the Bubba the Monster Hunter comedic horror series, and the Quincy Harker, Demon Hunter dark fantasy series.
Hartness is also a co-founder of Falstaff Books, a small press that he started with a couple of other publishing industry professionals in 2016. The press is dedicated to publishing genre fiction, with a focus on bringing new and diverse voices to the forefront of the industry. In addition to his work as an author and publisher, Hartness is also an avid Magic: the Gathering player and has even been referred to as the “Kevin Smith of Charlotte, NC” because of his strong nerd-fu and his girth.
In his personal life, Hartness is a graduate of Winthrop University and lives in Charlotte with his wife Suzy and a very demanding cat. He has held a variety of jobs in the past, including actor, lighting designer, theatre consultant, salesman, electronics technician, and arts administrator. In his free time, he enjoys long walks on the beach, rescuing kittens from trees, and playing Pathfinder with a group of other fantasy authors on the podcast Authors & Dragons. Hartness is a popular figure in the literary and gaming communities, and he has a strong following of fans who appreciate his unique storytelling style and his commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the genre fiction world.
