John Grisham is one of the most famous fiction authors of all-time, known for his legal thrillers that have captivated readers worldwide. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on February 8, 1955, Grisham grew up in the American South during a time when cotton was still a major crop and racism was prevalent. The son of a cotton farmer, Grisham's experiences in the South would later influence his writing and his exploration of deep-seated problems in the criminal justice system.
Grisham has achieved remarkable success as an author, with forty-seven consecutive #1 bestsellers that have been translated into nearly fifty languages. His recent books include "The Boys From Biloxi," "The Judge's List," "Sooley," and his third Jake Brigance novel, "A Time for Mercy," which is being developed by HBO as a limited series. Grisham's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including two wins of the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction and the Library of Congress Creative Achievement Award for Fiction.
In addition to his writing, Grisham is committed to social justice and serves on the board of directors of the Innocence Project and Centurion Ministries, two national organizations dedicated to exonerating those who have been wrongfully convicted. Much of his fiction explores issues related to the criminal justice system, reflecting his dedication to using his platform to raise awareness about important social issues. Grisham currently lives on a farm in central Virginia, where he continues to write and advocate for justice.
